MORE DETAIL:
Churches worldwide were pressured to close their doors amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The results have created dramatic downturns in attendance as many attendees’ new habits of staying at home on Sundays carried over when regular life kicked back into gear.
However, some innovative pastors used the power of social media during the crisis and stirred a revival that reached millions. The new faith-based documentary THE DOMINO REVIVAL offers a stirring look at their success. DOMINO plays for one night only on Tuesday, Oct. 24 in hundreds of theaters nationwide, as the latest in Fathom Events’ frequent Christian content that brings the power of Christ onto the silver screen.
The movie centers on its narrator, Mike Signorelli, whose pandemic outreach on social platforms like TikTok videos have led to his V1 Church being labeled the “fastest-growing church in America” for three years running. He opens the documentary by revealing how he not only managed to spark a revival at a time of great hardship with social lockdowns, but also did so from the difficult territory of an often-unchurched New York City.
Mike shares his rough childhood as a victim of abuse before his mother broke off a bad marriage and raised him and his four siblings in church. Going to church led to Mike having a “Pentecost moment” where he started speaking in tongues as a young teenager and immediately felt the calling to be a preacher. Coming to New York in the wake of 2012’s devastating Hurricane Sandy, Mike and his wife Julie started with just 18 attendees but grew over the next decade to two large churches in New York and another in Indiana.
When the idea to have church outdoors in Brooklyn’s Domino Park took root while his indoor locations were forced to shut down, what became known as “the Domino Revival” was born. That title took on greater meaning as other popular online ministers, including Alexander Pagani and Isaiah Saldivar, connected with Mike to build up each other’s online work, and each leader’s efforts gained momentum like an enormous spiritual game of dominoes.
The first half of THE DOMINO REVIVAL tells its compelling story through “talking head” interviews that are fast-paced and intriguing. Mike, Julie, Alexander, and Isaiah are joined by many other ministers in recounting the exciting story of how their efforts spread like wildfire across the Internet.
The second half switches gears to show videos of the powerful spiritual impact the revival inspired. It shows thousands of people getting baptized in ocean services, and countless more speaking in tongues and expressing themselves in other fascinating ways. Numerous people are shown being healed of major afflictions at these gatherings and offer their testimonies.
The most compelling footage shows people actively being delivered from demonic affliction and suicidal desperation to find new life in Christ. It’s all crisply edited to keep viewers thoroughly engaged and moved.
THE DOMINO REVIVAL does deal with mature themes like depression, suicide, demonic possession, and the moral decay of society. This makes it proper viewing for only teenagers and adult. However, there are no troubling visuals, and they are all part of the powerful moral uplift the movie provides overall.
Following the screening, there will be a live stream with Mike Signorelli and other key figures in the movie as they engage viewers in the chance to have a life-changing moment of salvation.
