A HARVEST HOMECOMING is a family-friendly romance on the Great American Family Channel and Pure Flix about a man who comes home to his family’s orchard farm and plans to leave again in two weeks, but he falls in love with the new woman his parents hired to expand and promote their little country store. The jeopardy in A HARVEST HOMECOMING is a bit light and laidback, but the movie tells an appealing family-friendly story with some heartwarming moments and good humor, along with a positive message about letting God direct your path in life.
Drew Clark returns home to Clark’s Mill & Orchard, his parents’ fruit farm. He’s waiting to hear from a teaching job in California and only plans to stay two weeks. In the meantime, he’s going to work as a substitute teacher at his childhood friend’s school. His sister, Della, is also between jobs and is staying at home.
Despite their age, their parents are taking out a loan to expand the little country store they that they run to sell their fruit. They’ve also hired a pretty divorcee, Lainie, to give them ideas for the expansion and to help run the store. However, Drew is skeptical about the whole thing, especially Lainie’s plan to have a little petting zoo to attract families to the orchard and the store. So, he and Lainie get off on the wrong foot.
However, Drew learns that Lainie’s 12-year-old son, Aiden, is in the class that Drew’s teaching. Drew tries to help Aiden adjust, and he starts to develop an attachment to the boy and his mother. So, what about his plans to take a teaching job in California?
The jeopardy in A HARVEST HOMECOMING is a bit light and laidback. For example, the jeopardy about Drew leaving doesn’t really occur until well after the story’s midpoint. That said, the cast and crew tell an appealing story with some heartwarming moments and lots of good humor. The scenes involving Lainie’s son are charming, and Drew’s grandfather provides some good laughs whenever he’s onscreen.
A HARVEST HOMECOMING is thoroughly wholesome and family friendly. It has a Christian, moral worldview that stresses the importance of family and the importance of gently and caringly providing a positive direction for children. Also, the movie stresses God and His plans for our lives in at least three scenes. For example, the parents have faith that God will direct the plans they have for expanding and marketing the store and the orchard. Also, instead of relying on their personal feelings, Drew and Lainie make decisions about the future of their relationship based on what God might have in store for them. Eventually, they put their faith and trust in Him for their future together.
