The Daily Fountain Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 8 April 2024 – Jesus, The Way To The Father
TOPIC: Jesus, The Way To The Father (NKJV)
READ: 1 John 1: 1-4 (NKJV)
- That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life
- the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us
- that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship [is] with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
- And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.
THE MESSAGE:
The purpose of John’s letter is to bring souls into a relationship with God. In verses 1-2, he points out that Jesus Christ, who is the Eternal Word is the center of any relationship with God. (The beginning that he speaks about is eternity and before time as in John 1: 1-3.) The same Eternal Word was made manifest, physically real, through incarnation, of which he’s an eyewitness. It is emphatic that we can’t have the eternal life of the Father without accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour.
John’s testimony about Jesus magnetically draws us into a sublime, fellowship with both God’s people and God Himself. It is the ancient Greek word koinonia, which speaks of a sharing, a communion, a common bond and common life. It speaks of a living, breathing, sharing, loving relationship with another person. We all have the divine life in us. The result of this fellowship is fullness of joy and this joy means an abiding sense of hopefulness and cheerfulness based on God, as opposed to happiness, which is a sense of optimism and cheerfulness based on circumstances. Do you have this joy, this fellowship with GOD and the brethren?
PRAYER: LORD, may I never lose or miss the eternal fellowship with You above. Amen.
