READ: PSALM 34: 1-10 (NKJV)

  1. A Psalm of David when he pretended madness before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed. I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise [shall] continually [be] in my mouth.
  2. My soul shall make its boast in the LORD; The humble shall hear [of it] and be glad.
  3. Oh, magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together.
34:4. I sought the LORD, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.
  4. They looked to Him and were radiant, And their faces were not ashamed.
  5. This poor man cried out, and the LORD heard [him,] And saved him out of all his troubles.
  6. The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them.
  7. Oh, taste and see that the LORD [is] good; Blessed [is] the man [who] trusts in Him!
  8. Oh, fear the LORD, you His saints! [There is] no want to those who fear Him.
  9. The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good [thing.]

THE MESSAGE:

This is a psalm of David which he wrote probably from the cave at Adullam. A fugitive from Saul, David went to the Philistine city of Gath but found no refuge there and narrowly escaped (1 Samuel 21: 10-22: 1). Following that, he went to this cave where many desperate men joined him. This joyful and wise psalm shows that we need to be thankful at all times, no matter the circumstance we find ourselves (verses 1-2). David knew there was something attractive about the true praise of God (verses 3-7).

When one genuinely praises God, he or she wants to draw others into the practice of praise. If it is good for one to exalt His name, then it is even better to do it together with His people. David testifies how God delivered him and also lighted the darkness in the lives of his friends. Don’t be selfish about the testimonies of God, because God does not love only you. Others’ testimonies are yours also. David challenges us to experience God’s goodness for ourselves (verses 8-10) and this can come through a personal encounter. God can do it again and again. Learn to testify of God’s goodness publicly and praise Him continually.
