Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Launches Nationwide Outreach Program to Combat Poverty.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has announced a national outreach program meant to uplift and alleviate suffering amongst the rural poor all over Nigeria.
The project, titled “Project Hope,” was launched by the General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, at an event held in Lagos. In the affirmation of hope to the poor, Pastor Adeboye underlined that this scripture mandate to relieve the less advantaged of their suffering must be lived.
“Project Hope is a response to the cry of the needy and the voice of God to have compassion for the less privileged,” said the General Overseer on the launch occasion. “This project is designed to respond not to mere need, but to empower people and communities in breaking the cycle of poverty.”
Scope: Ultimately, the limits of the Project Hope will be broadened into a comprehensive community-based project that would address all aspects of poverty:
Food Security Programs: These are programs that deal with the provision of food aids to families who are food insecure through the introduction of community kitchens, food banks, and agricultural development projects.
Skills Training and Employment Opportunities: Setting up of vocational training and job placement services to provide marketable skills to the unemployed and opportunities to attain sustainable livelihood.
Healthcare Services: Provision of basic health services such as medical checkup, vaccination, and various programs for the benefit of education, the slum dwellers being an exception, often located in remote areas where these might not be available.
Education Support: It will entail sponsoring scholarships, giving out of school supplies, and other assistance in education to benefit children in need, ensuring the development of literacy and the achievement of educational success.
Microfinance and Entrepreneurship Development: A holistic financial literacy program, which also provides micro-credit loans and business mentorship, to help aspiring entrepreneurs start new ventures or scale up their businesses and employ others.
The launch of Project Hope has been widely acclaimed by members of RCCG and even beyond that, with many being excited at the chance to be part of the making of an impact that transforms lives in the lives of those that are not just underprivileged, but indeed underserved.
“It is really our calling, as Christians, to continue to show the love of God to others through the acts of kindness and generous giving,” said Mrs. Funmi Adekunle, a parishioner at RCCG. “I feel so happy to be on board with Project Hope and help to make a difference in society in my own little way.”
With the mobilization of a network of churches and volunteers across Nigeria by the RCCG to adopt the Project Hope initiatives in their localities, there is thus all this optimism that it will serve as a catalyst to promoting transformative change—lifting a people and their communities from the grip of poverty to a brighter horizon full of hope and opportunity.
