The Daily Fountain Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 4 January 2024 – Where Do You Take Refuge
TOPIC: Where Do You Take Refuge
READ: Psalm 11: 1-7 (NKJV)
- To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. In the LORD I put my trust; How can you say to my soul, “Flee [as] a bird to your mountain”?
- For look! The wicked bend [their] bow, They make ready their arrow on the string, That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart.
- If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?
- The LORD [is] in His holy temple, The LORD’s throne [is] in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men.
- The LORD tests the righteous, But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.
- Upon the wicked He will rain coals; Fire and brimstone and a burning wind [Shall be] the portion of their cup.
- For the LORD [is] righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.
THE MESSAGE:
I watched as she went from the grave of the husband to that of the son and the daughter, pouring sand as the words were read: ‘Dust to dust, ashes to ashes.’ I’ve judged it my most difficult ministry assignments so far: Burying this sister’s entire family who died in a car crash. The pain, the tears, even the silence, is better imagined than experienced. I did not know what to say to her. But to God’s glory, she has survived (8months since the incident) and I believe she will pull through. One clear thing I remember I said, and have kept saying to her is: ‘I leave you in God’s hands.’ I am learning that it is the most reasonable thing to do. It has worked; He has kept her.
Where do you take refuge? What, or who is your first resort when in trouble? Where do you first resort to in times of danger? Where lies your confidence in paddling through the sea of life? For some, they think of more money; others may think of someone to run to; yet for some others, ‘going to their village’ to find out the cause and solution, is the right thing to do. Over time, these have all failed! For David, “In the LORD I take refuge” (verse 1). God is more than sufficient, child of God. Take refuge in Him; He never fails.
PRAYER: When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.
