Early Life

Under Bishop David Oyedepo’s direction, Bishop Thomas Aremu serves as Vice President (Foreign Missions) of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel). He is the Ibadan Church’s senior pastor at the moment.

On March 18, 1957, Bishop Thomas Olayiwola Aremu was born in Oyo Town, Oyo State. He attended basic school from 1963 to 1969 and secondary school from 1970 to 1973. From 1973 to 1976, he worked as a typist, account clerk, and college bursar at Notre Dame Girls Secondary School in Oro, Kwara State.

Education

Between 1976 and 1982, he continued his education at Catholic Technical College in Ile-Ife and The Polytechnic in Ibadan, where he earned distinctions in accounting and a Higher National Diploma (HND) with an upper-division credit in accountancy, respectively. In 1990, he also graduated from the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from the University of Lagos (ASCON).

Bishop Thomas received his professional training from the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Accountants, and in November 1984 he earned his chartered accountant designation. He is still an Associate Member (ACA) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. 

Career

Between September 1983 to March 1993, Bishop Thomas held a variety of management roles in the public sector. From March 1993 to May 1994, he worked in the finance sector before answering God’s call to full-time pastoral ministry.

In May 1994, Bishop Thomas Aremu joined Living Faith Church Worldwide as a full-time pastor. He served as the first pastor of Living Faith Church in Ibadan, which under his leadership grew to 10,000 members in just four years. He has also had the honor of serving as Senior Pastor and Regional Overseer at a number of Living Faith Church locations, including those in Accra, Ghana; Ilorin; Kaduna; Port Harcourt; Johannesburg, Nigeria; and Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

He was consecrated as Bishop of the Living Faith Church in December 1999. He was Vice President Church Network between 2001 to 2003, Vice President Africa Mission and Vice President Foreign Mission 2010 – 2012. He presently occupies the position of a Missioner of Living Faith Church Worldwide and currently the presiding bishop of Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel) Bashorun, Ibadan.

His perspective on political Christians

If Christians aren’t involved, sinners will control Christians and ruin them.
Politics and the ministry are to be kept apart, as advised to us by the winners (leadership). Those of us who work full-time cannot even approach it because it requires so much devotion and attention. But because we are the light of the world, we also think that Christians should be involved in politics.
So, we support and pray for those who have the vision to get involved in politics. But rather than remaining apart and siding with the detractors, we should get involved in politics.

Personal

His four children are Faith, Love, Thomas (Junior), and Emmanuel. He is married to Pastor (Mrs.) Elizabeth Moradeyo Aremu.
