When someone says he has PHD in mathematics, Don’t let him deceive you, That doesn’t mean he knows… – Pastor Adeboye.
The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E. A. Adeboye recently discussed the nature of knowledge on YouTube, highlighting parallels between human expertise and God’s omniscience. He cautioned against overinterpreting academic titles, stating that holding a Ph.D. in a particular field, like Mathematics, doesn’t indicate mastery of every aspect within that discipline.
The pastor used an analogy, imagining someone boasting about having a Ph.D. in Mathematics but gradually specifying a focus on “Applied Maths” and then “Hydrodynamics.” This illustration aimed to emphasize the extensive scope of knowledge in a single field and underscored the importance of humility in recognizing the boundaries of human expertise.
According to him, “I have told you before that when somebody says he has PhD in Mathematics, don’t be deceived. It doesn’t mean that he knows all Mathematics. If he is among his colleagues they will ask him, what aspect of Mathematics? He will say; Applied Maths.” If they went further to ask; what aspect of Applied Maths? He will say; Hydrodynamics. Thus, God is the omniscience of all subjects. And in him we can find divine wisdom to excel.”
The core message centers on God’s limitless wisdom, according to Pastor Adeboye, portraying Him as the all-knowing fount of knowledge across all subjects. The pastor highlighted the idea that those striving for excellence should seek divine wisdom from God. He drew comparisons between the intricate specializations in academic fields and the all-encompassing understanding attributed to the divine.
