Anglican Devotional 3 October 2024 — The Blessed Man

The Daily Fountain Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 3 October 2024 — The Blessed Man

TOPIC: The Blessed Man

READ: Psalm 1: 1-6 (NKJV)

  1. Blessed [is] the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
  2. But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.
  3. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
  4. The ungodly [are] not so, But [are] like the chaff which the wind drives away.
  5. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
  6. For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

THE MESSAGE:

In the African culture, the blessed man in the African culture is one with sons, daughters, cars, houses, lands, multiple thriving investments or has positions of power. On the contrary, our text outlines the profile of the blessed man as follows: 1. One who does not obey the counsel of ungodly people. 2. Does not partner with sinners to do evil 3. Does not join or applaud those who mock people 4. Delights and meditates on the word of God, day and night. The result of this lifestyle is an all-encompassing spiritual, material as well as generational fruitfulness and prosperity. On the other hand, the ungodly man has no regard for God (verses 4-6). He neither obeys nor meditates on the word of God and the consequences are apparent destruction and separation from God.

Today, we remember Bishop Ajayi Crowther, a slave boy who was later freed and became the first CMS African Bishop of West Africa. God used him to evangelise some parts of this country and to translate the English bible into many Nigerian languages. His godly works and faith still speak in this generation. To be a blessed or an ungodly man is a choice which attracts blessings and consequences respectively. However, God does not desire the death of any man but that all should repent and be saved. Therefore, choose wisely and enjoy God’s blessings and prosperity.

PRAYER: Help me Lord to live like a blessed man so that my faith and works will speak beyond my generation in Jesus’ name.
