TOPIC: How Sweet Are Your Words!

READ: Psalm 119: 97-112 (NKJV)

  1. Oh, how I love Your law! It [is] my meditation all the day.
  2. You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; For they [are] ever with me.
  3. I have more understanding than all my teachers, For Your testimonies [are] my meditation.
  4. I understand more than the ancients, Because I keep Your precepts.
  5. I have restrained my feet from every evil way, That I may keep Your word.
  6. I have not departed from Your judgments, For You Yourself have taught me.
  7. How sweet are Your words to my taste, [Sweeter] than honey to my mouth!
  8. Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way.
  9. Your word [is] a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
  10. I have sworn and confirmed That I will keep Your righteous judgments.
  11. I am afflicted very much; Revive me, O LORD, according to Your word.
  12. Accept, I pray, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O LORD, And teach me Your judgments.
  13. My life [is] continually in my hand, Yet I do not forget Your law.
  14. The wicked have laid a snare for me, Yet I have not strayed from Your precepts.
  15. Your testimonies I have taken as a heritage forever, For they [are] the rejoicing of my heart.
  16. I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes Forever, to the very end.

THE MESSAGE:

In our text, the Psalmist expresses the place of the word of God in his life and leaves no one in doubt that it has been his mainstay. The Almighty God has left us with His word to guide and direct us (verse 105). Its counsels keep us away from sin (verse 101) and they take us into deeper understanding and wisdom (verses 99-100). The word of God is infallible and inerrant. For thousands of years, its content has never been changed or amended and has remained valid today.

The Word of God is God living with us (John 1: 1). As we daily engage the word, we see His Spirit transform and empower us to face life’s challenges. The enemy will not want us to know this truth and so does everything to keep us from engaging God at His Words. But our growth and sustenance come there from (1 Peter 2: 2). And we must not come to a point of satisfaction with it, otherwise we will begin to loathe its counsels (Proverbs 27: 7). Are the words of God sweet to you? How often do you spend time with the word of God? Read the word every day!
