Anglican Devotional 3 July 2024: Blessed Believers

The Daily Fountain Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 3 July 2024 – Blessed Believers

TOPIC: Blessed Believers

READ: John 20: 24-29 (NKJV)

  1. Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.
  2. The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”
  3. And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!”
  4. Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand [here,] and put [it] into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”
  5. And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”
  6. Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed [are] those who have not seen and [yet] have believed.”

THE MESSAGE:

Thomas was one of the original 12 Apostles (Mark 3: 14). He was a twin (verse 24), and his name is mentioned 8 times in the Gospels, and once in Acts; but volumes have been written about him in Church history. He is believed to have done much of his evangelistic exploits in India, where he eventually died near Chennai (formerly Madras). Thomas was absent when Jesus appeared in the evening of his resurrection (verse 24) thereby missing the initial encouragement received by others (verses 19-23).

Thankfully, he had a second chance when Jesus appeared again after 8days. He now shared in the ministration that Jesus showered on them. In addition, Jesus singled him out to clear his doubts about His bodily resurrection (verse 27). He was encouraged to have a full experience of Christ so that he could effectively join the group of believers who are truly blessed. Thomas saw, believed and was blessed (verse 29). Though we do not see Him physically today, we have the Holy Bible as well as the Holy Spirit that bear him witness (verses 31-32; John 16: 13). Please take advantage of these and believe Him fully to be truly blessed. Then you will have a real experience (1 John 1: 1-3).
