The Daily Fountain Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 28 June 2024 – Live Your Life To Glorify God
TOPIC: Live Your Life To Glorify God
READ: Genesis 9: 18-29 (NKJV)
- Now the sons of Noah who went out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And Ham [was] the father of Canaan.
- These three [were] the sons of Noah, and from these the whole earth was populated.
- And Noah began [to be] a farmer, and he planted a vineyard.
- Then he drank of the wine and was drunk, and became uncovered in his tent.
- And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside.
- But Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid [it] on both their shoulders, and went backward and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces [were] turned away, and they did not see their father’s nakedness.
- So Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done to him.
- Then he said: “Cursed [be] Canaan; A servant of servants He shall be to his brethren.”
- And he said: “Blessed [be] the LORD, The God of Shem, And may Canaan be his servant.
- May God enlarge Japheth, And may he dwell in the tents of Shem; And may Canaan be his servant.”
- And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years.
- So all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years; and he died.
THE MESSAGE:
Noah, after the flood, became the first tiller of ground. He planted a vineyard and drank of the wine, became drunk and was naked. On that account, he brought shame upon himself. He also placed a curse on his son, Ham, for seeing his nakedness. The action of Noah reveals the dangers and consequences of living a loose life in times of comfort. Before the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were both naked and were not ashamed because they were in the will of God and were therefore covered with His glory (Genesis 2: 25). As soon as they fell out of God’s eternal purpose by eating a forbidden fruit, they were stripped of God’s glory and shame became the order of their lives.
Beloved, we must learn from Noah’s shortcomings (Ephesians. 5: 18). God created you fearfully and wonderfully; He made you in His image and so it is imperative that every segment of your life must announce His glory.
PRAYER: Lord, give me the grace to live in the reality of Your glory all the days of my life.
